With the establishment of the Hong Kong Flying Club there should be an awakening of public interest in all branches of aviation. There is no obrious" reason why Hong Kong should not become as important & centro for air-trans port as it is for shipping, provided the necessary ground facilities are available for those who need them. Just as a steamer fying any fing whatsoever is free to enter the har bour to land or pick up passengers and cargo, so will airplanes of all nationalities be given similar ep portunities to pursue their lawful occasions. Further, interest in fly- ing will be stimulated among these who at present may be inclined to regard aviation as a subject of very remote concern. FIREMEN DO GOOD WORK.
Three houses in a block of Ave. adjoining the Wanchai market, and opposite the Post Office, were com pletely destroyed last night in a fire which spread very rapidly to the upper floors.
The buildings, about five years. old, are of the three-storey type, the ground floors being used by tradesmen and the upper floors as dwelling quarters.
At 5.56 p.m., a chorus of police-" whistles announced the start of the fire and simultaneously a quantity of fire-crackers which were part. of the stock-in-trade of the shop. where the fire began, commenced. to explode.
