The closing stage of the game was very exciting, and I had the good fortune to be present to see a gruelling battle between bowlers and batsmen. What promised to be a close and exciting game between the Police R.C. and C.S.0.C. resulted in an easy win for the former, who were the home team. It was rather a disappointment for the Civil Ser vants, who were confident of vic tory, and I rather expected them to necure full points, too.

How. ever, B. G. Baker and Alexander saw to it that the C.S.C.C. stal warts did not win out of turn, for they both bowled well and the Jatter knocked up 40 runs as well. I cannot understand why the Civil Service fared so badly, for I saw them play against the Indiana soms weeks ago, and they won in a con. vincing manner, and the team struck me as a good all-round one.

An example of the glorious uncer tainty of the game, I suppose.

Marton Lissaman. Lissaman and Marton started in very different fashion to Shewan and Dodwell. Lisaaman can seldom have produced such golf and he will certainly never stand such a good chance of beating Marton, as long as he lives. He caught Marton on a day when his putts refused to drop-ke took three putts on six greens, but that is not belittling Lissaman's achievement, as anyone who takes Marton to the 18th, on his day or off it, has to deliver the goods.

If Lissaman had only been able to accept the gifts which the Gods offered, as probably Ferguson in his place would have done, he would have won by 4 anil 2, however,

Christmas week will bring with it some good football, two very good matches being down for de- cision in connection with the Sun day Herald Cup. The teams enter ed this year, as in former years, are England, Scotland, Portugal, and China The Chinese, "I know," will make a special effort to carry, off this trophy, and at present their chances appear extremely rosy, as the combined forces of the South China A.A. and the Chinese A.A. will undoubtedly mean the fielding of a very strong eleven. Moreover, the holiday festivities will, if they interfere with players at all, affect the other teams more than the Chinese team, in much the same way as a game on Chinese New Year Day would affect a Chinese team. My conjecture may prove but I think the Sunday wrong, Herald Cap will go to the Chinese this season.

Tokyo, Dec. 10

The Executive Committee of the Japan Lawn Tennis Association has decided to challenge for the Davis Cup in the European Zone in 1030 instead of the American Zone as in former years.

The decision is based on the fact that the European Zone offers a larger variety of competition.

Takeishi Harada, Yoshiro Ohta, Tamio Abe,

Hyotaro Sato.

The first three are veteran inter- nationalists, while Sato is rated as the best of the newcomers.
