JUNK MÅSTER SUMMONED. New Mathilde, British str., $42 tons, Capt. E. G. Rapley, from Hoihow, buoy No. C17-Yick Tai S.S. Co.

SEQUEL TO JUNK AND

SAMPAN COLLISION,

Before Mr. T. W. H. Hesegood as the Marine Court yesterday a junk master was summoned for not at tempting to save the lives of people thrown out of a sampan afty in an accident in which his junk was in- velved.

Giving evidence, the master of the capsized sampan said that when his simpan with two passengers on board was approaching a Jardine's steamer at West Point, it collided with a trading junk, the rigging having fouled the stern of the junk,

Mr. W. A. Ziemerp said that he was on a Hong Kong Hotel launch which was on its way to meet the

Canton. Suddenly he heard cries of Save life and on seeing a sampan upside down in the water they immediately went to the rescue and picked up two adults and two 12,160 children. When he was informed that a trading junk which was in- volved in the accident was going away without rendering help. be immediately boarded another launch- which was nearby and chased the junk. On the way he met a police launch and signalled to it and later told the police officers. He then ac companied the police to overtake the junk and made the arrest.

After hearing further evidence 770 4,350 His Worship said it was a very

serious case but as it was doubtful whether the defendant did try to escape without rendering any help or not, he gave him the heeft of à doubt and dismissed the ease.
