"THE GEISHA."
INTERVIEW WITH THE PRODUCER.
[FROM A CORRESPONDENT.]
I dropped in at the Theatre Royal last night, and was privileged to see a rehearsal of the Philharmonic Society's production of "The Geisha." Mrs. F. G. Hunt, who will be remembered as the producer of "On Approval" for the A.D.C. last winter, was able to spate, me A few minutes, from her many duties to tell me something about the play and the cast
The Geisha'," she said, "is a phantasy of the lightest kind, bub bling over with tilting tunes, Who does not know The Jewel of The Asia,' Star of my soul,' Monkey on a Stick," and "Chin Chin Chinaman '↑ These songs have a popularity with amateurs equal to that of Gilbert and Sulli- van's best."
The Ladies.
"I have been fortunale," continu. od Mrs. Hunt," in securing a"most talented cast. I think Marjorie Bowes Smith wonderfully cast as
O Mimosa San,' She sings har way through the play and charms everyone. Eileen Bellamy just bub bles over with joie de vivre and vivacity, and her performance is, to my mind, an extraordinarily fiue piece of character acting. The Molly Beamore' of Leila Clarko is most fascinating and alluring. Here we have type of a fresh young English sportswoman, con- quering hearts on all sides, and smiling her way through life. I think she is aderable?' Birs. J. H. Hunt brings all her dignity, ex- perience and acting ability to the part of Lady Constance Wynme,' n difficult role which only an ne complished artist could portray. Margaret Chubb is cast as Tommy Stanley, and makes a dashing little anotty." For the members of Lady Constance's party, I have been fortunate in securing some of the loveliest girls in Hong Kong.
And the Men.
"As to the men, you can imagine my joy at being able to secure. Mr. R. E. Greensmith to undertake the part of Wan Hi, the principal comedian. He is simply wonder- ful, and better than I ever imagined he could be. I honestly consider him a great find theatrically. Formerly he has been known mere ly as the husband of that exquisite artist, Lucy Greensmith, but I can guarantee that after his first public performance in Hong Kong, his acting will be the talk of the town. and everyone will deplore the fact that he is leaving the East in a month's time. Mr. A. 3. J. Brock you all know go well for his many fine performances in prévious musi cal shows. It has been a real plea- sure to me to have such an en- thusiastic person in the cast: 1 have the highest opinion of his act ing and staging although, alas! be has little of the latter to do in this show. The spirit and keenness of Mr. Brock in the theatre are won- derful. He finds no detail too small for him and no obstacle, too great to further his art, and he is giving a remarkably subtle and intelligent performance of the Marquis Imari Mr. H, V. Parker is that mara avis, a real juvenile lend. He

is the young lover to the very life. A good light tener voice is not easily come by, and I have been for tunate in securing Mr. H. G.
