THE HONG KONG DAILY PRESS, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 1929.

At 3-1 is her favour Miss Firth made more faults, which enabled her opponent to redare the lead to 3-2. By line drives she in ereased it to 42. Mrs. Miles then pulled up splendidly from 40-0 on her opponent's service, but failed in her anxiety to score aces, losing the game. Mes. Miles scored brilliantly at the net on most of the creasions that she worked her way up there, while Miss Firth rather fought shy of the net, preferring to keep the baseline when drawn out of position, but she brought off a few fine cross court shots,

Often when under fire, she would retrieve difficult shots by a nice ent without much effort, while in attnek she met the ball with 4 Hat rackel, finishing by a slice executed by slight wrist work. She showed fast recovery, and must have disconcerted Mrs. Miles con siderably in this respect, as she repeatedly returned Mrs. Miles hard drives except for a period in the second set.

The Men's Doubles followed. Major Lucas and Dr. Tottenhum met Wade and Kong in the No. 2 Doublies. On the whole the match | did not reach the standard expect- led, and only on rare occasions did any, of the four appear brilliant. The Shanghai pair, who won, were evidently the better, but it was outfy. in the first set that they were con vincing. Then they gave a god exhibition hitting out nicely" and accurately: Their forceful net play gave the local pair few chances. Paul Kong at this stage was specta- cular and he smashed and served

RACING NOTES.

ANNUAL RACE - MEETING EXTENDED.

SOME OF THE CRACKS" EXPECTED TO START.

[BE MORNING DEW."}

Racegoers will be pleased, to see from an advertisement on another page that the Annual Race Meeting for 1930 will extend over five days instead of the usuni four. The dates fixed are February 22, 24, 25, 20, and March 1. Although the step is a departure from the practice established runny, years ago, I feel sure that the general public will warmly welcome an extra day's racing. From the point of views of owners and trainers also, the extra day's sport will prove equally. attractive.
