A RUSSIAN GANG AT
WORK.
All the elements of a droma aro associated with the kidnapping of Mr. Aaron Brenner at Tientsin on November 7, says the North China. Star which gives the following account of the incident.
A well-known American citizen, Mr. Aaron Brenner is a "partner in the firm of Brenner Bros. dealers in furs and skins. Some time after 8.30 o'clock one evening he. was missing and demand was re- ceived shortly, after by his brothers for ransom, rumoured to be half. a million gold dollars, accompani ed by threats on the life of the kidnapped man if the money was not forthcoming promptly and if. any attempt was made to search for him.
The news spread 'with lightning rapidity and enused considerable consternation acng his large
circle of friends and acquaintances, especially among the other fur and, akin buyers. Adding to the excite ment and speculation came the news that the police had arrested a handsome blonde Russian wo man who is now, being held at the British Police Headquarters.
On receiving the deannd for ran som the brothers, Mr. D. Brenner and Mrs. J. Brenner, lest no time in commanicling with the Ameri ran Consulate-General and the local police, and a frantic search was made for him. Exhaustive, en- quiring were made of his friends and every place he was likely to be was visited fruitlessly.

Large Gang Operating.
It has been reported that there are several Russians in town, mem- -bers of a large gang of kidnappers who have been operating in Russie and recently in Harbin, and a local lady who has been in Harbin only
short while ago, positively asserts that she has seen them in town and that there could be to mistake whatever, as to their identity, as they were well known in Harbin.
The presence of this gang of operators, scoincident with the ar rival of the blonde lady who had been out to "kill" the town has given rise to the theory that Mr. Aaron Brenner has been kidnapped by an organized gang of neatly dressed Russians, There is no doubt whatever that the missing Bun is the victim of a deep and well laid plot, so nently was the whale affair carried out and so promptly did the demand for ran-
som arrive
Endeavors to get more details from the two Bremer brothers and the police were met with a point Blank refusal, and wild rumours are being heard on every side as to the size of the ranson, as well as much speculation as to whether the ransom would be paid and when the victim will be released. In the meantime silence is being preserv- ed by the people in the know. All efforts to get Brenner Brothers on the telephone yesterday were un- availing, the line having evidently been cut of disconnected.
[Since the above account first appeared, Mr. Aaron Brenner has returned to his home, but the whole affair remains a complete mystery, }
