The feature of Saturday's races at Happy Valley was the great win of Hiawatha in the Hong Kong St. Leger. The pony romped, home many lengths ahead of the rest of the field. Mr. Soares, who was in the saddle rode a well-judged race, to get the best out of the pony and a description of how the 10th St. Leger was run will be found below.
Boxing Eve (Mr. Charles up) had no difficulty in carrying off the honours in the "A" The pony, however, was disqualified after, the race, and a Class Handicap over is furlongs. notice was posted up later to the effect that a protest against the winner bumping and boring was sustained by the Stewards. As a result of the protest, the programme was somewhat delay- ed nod this led to the inst race being fan in darkness.
On the whole, favourites had a bad day, Hiawatha and Boxing Eve being the only ones. to run true to form. The first big dividend came when Tarmacadam accounted for Huntington, a red hot favourite, and in the last rare, One Third surprised a very classy field.
The going was very good, but was not on the fast side. Honours among the jockeys were evenly divided, Mr. Roza getting the best returns with two wins to his credit. Mr. Soares start- "ed twice and won one and obtained a second on Winsome Stag in the race where the winner. was disqualified. Mr. Heard obtained a .first, two seconds and two thirds and Mr. T. L. Wong a
irst and a second.

Mr. Heard scored a credible vie tory in this race with Noukhail and in so doing displaced the two best fancied candidates, Duke of Melrose and King's Falloch.

Appropriately enough, Fanting Stag won the Fanling Plate: Although seven novices faced the starter, the public boiled the chances down to three, As You Like It' and Fanting Stag carrying most of the money with Sunshine not too badly supported.
As You Like It and Sunshine were in the van most of the quarter mile.. Fanling Stag"(McCartney) was con- tented to wait behind the leaders until the Village bend, when he took the lead and was never headed again., As You Like It challenged him over the furlong, but the effort proved unavailing Sunshine was a poor third.
Shek-O Handicap "B" Class. The biggest upset of the after- noon came here.
Huntington, in spite of his weight (he was carrying 107 lbs.) was made a red-hot favourite, and he failed:
