A boat older than Caligula's

Ithon at Llandrindod Wells, and for generations been the plaything of children.

Usually, little of the boat can be areo, but this summer the river has been so low that the boat was en tirely exposed.

Sir Charles Venables-Llewelyn. the Lord Lieutenant of Radnor shire, and Mr. T. P. Davies, of Llandrindod Wells, both members of the Cambrian Archeological Society, obtained permission from the owner of the land to remove part of the bank in which the boat was embedded. Rough trove of a wharf where the boat had been moored were discovered.

The boat was fifteen feet long, three feet, being buried in the bank, and proved to be a "dug out or conoc, fashioned from the trunk of a tree, clearly showing the marks of the instrument that had been used to hollow it.

The discovery was made near the 20 site of the old Roman cacampment

of Castle Collon.
