KWANGTUNG'S FORMAL DECLARATION OF WAR.

ALIGNMENT OF MILITARY LEADERS STILL UNCERTAIN.

NANKING REINFORCEMENTS ARRIVE IN CANTON.

Kwangtung has formally declared war on Kwangsi and the Canton usual proclamations and justifications have been issued.

troops have occupied Wuchow, and the Ironsides are expected at Kurilin, from which town they will advance on Wuchow down the Kwei Kiang.

The attitude of Lui Woon 1m, Commander of the 16th (Kwangi) Division, is obeure. While one report states that he is negotiating terms of alliance with Kwangtung, another declares that, with his troops, he is retreating towards Kwailin to join forces with Chang Fat Fui. "KWANGSI “TRAITORS "

WHY CANTON DECLARED WAR.

[Fans our owN CORRESPONDENT.]

CANTON, October 4.

The Kwangsi Government took no notice of the Ultimatum fruni Canton and the latter Government formally declared war to-day.

In

a special proclamation the head of the Kwangsi Government, Yu Took Pak, is denounced as a "reactionary and a traitor who has

་་་ been working against the interests. of peace between the two Kwangs He has defied the Nanking Gov- crament, 'entirely forgetting that it

was with the help of that Govern. ment that he was placed at the head of Kwangsi. He has plot ted with Li Ming Shui, another

reactionary and allied himself with Chang Fat Fui."

There is a good deal more to theị sasse effect and an appeal to the Kwangtung people to support the

Government, etc.

A further declaration, signed by General Chen Tsai Tong, defends the war policy on the following grounds:

The Kwangsi party has joined with Russia and is seeking to sell

the country.

-The said party were respon sible for the Red Upheaval ia Canton of December, 1927, they are largely Communists apd have raised so-calied peasant armies which are in tac:"gungs" of "Reds"

3.The Kai Tuo faction of the Kuomintang consists of extremists who have been expelled from the party, but have gathered in Kwang Bi and made the province a centre of revolt.

4.-Tha Kwangi party has des troyed the unity of the country and betrayed the principles of Dr. Sun Yat Sen

5.They have violated the terms and spirit of the Disbandment Con-
