ARSENAL LOSE AGAIN ON SATURDAY..
LEEDS UNITED LEAD IN FIRST DIVISION.
ROCHDALE SURPRISED.
Leeds United gained their second victory of the week, and reached the top position in Division 1 of the English League, hitherto held by the Arsenal, who were defeated again in meet- ing the Cup winners. Three other leading teams also went down. Twelve goals were scored between Blackburn and Birmingham, the points going to the Rovers. Sheffield Wednesday, last season's champions, drew with Sheffield United, but their earlier success in the week enabled them to move up four places. ;
Placed more than half way down the Division II. table, the Wolves were elevated to second position consequent on another victory by 4.0 over Preston North End, Chelsea also gained four points during the week and placed themselves in a challenging position: Oldham Athletic retained the leadership although they were again forced to give one pint away,
Southend continue to hold the reins in the Southern Section, hut their position is threatened by Plymouth Argyle, who repeat- ed their mid-week success. Part Vale, lenders in the Northern Section, „added another four points, having lost only one match. Rochdale were surprised on the visit to Wrexham where they were beaten by eight goals.
The Scottish League matches fetched another win for the Bangers and a better place for Aberdeen, who were also success- fat during the week.

Except for the game at Sookun- poo, little, interest was shown in soccer on the eve of the commence. meat of the League season which opens on October 3. On the Gar rison ground, a very keen game was reen, a strong combination from the Army beating China Athletic by the odd goal in three.
A large crowd turned out to wit- acts the game and this augurs well for successful season for the Athletic on their new ground at
