There are some 23,000 boys and girls studying in Hong Kong schools and colleges who are able to peruse this column, and as the Daily Press is read at all the schools it will be seen at once how this article, appearing at fort nightly intervals, can help to bring into closer relation students of the different schools and colleges in Hong Kong. It is also a medium for fostering a spirit of friendly understanding between local educa- tional institutions, where some twenty-five thousand students of both sexes are taking courses, of education which bring them in

In this column has been publish- ed records of activities in the fields of apont and study of all our lead. ing schools, and in many instances -through the courtesy and 10- operation of the schools themselves news of the social side of school life-concerts, farewell prenenta tions, Annual dinners, staff changes, and activities of former pupils have been included. The writer is confident that this medium for exchanging news and views of local educational institutions is, and will continue to be, appre clated by all concerned,

Holiday Occupations. How does the average schoolboy spend his holidays? When I was at one of the local schools, I found seven weeks of vacation a bit too long, because it meant starting | afresh in one's, studies after such a. long respite. In my case, koti- days were holidays, and took care to forget my text-books while the vacation was on. Two or three days before school resumed I would pick up my books again, only to discover that I had forgotten a good dea, and that it would take weeks to thoroughly go over the old ground again,

Football.

In years gone by there was - an interschool football league, but this has been dropped for some years, and so far as I understand no steps have been taken revive it. In view of the great interest taken by the Chinese in football, I think the school authorities would do well to promote a School Loague. Some of the best footballers in the Chinese team which are faring well in first-class football played in the School League before they joined their present teams.

The maps were even better than the drawings. Two efforts by a student showing Asic and Austra lia wore so good that they might have come from one of the leading lithographers in London. The maps were complete in every de tail. There was A map of the world showing the two hemi- spheres, which deserves special mention, for the artist must have spent a good deal of his mine weeks over this map. Several mapa of local interest were also display cd,, and others illustrative of his torical conquets were on exhibi- tion. The judges will have a dif ficult task when they commence the work of adjudication.
