REVIEW OF FIRST HALF OF 1929 SEASON.
BY EARLY BIRD.]
Hong Kong racegoers have not been backward in expressing their appreciation of the excellent fare provided for them by the indefitig- able Racing Committee of the Hung Kong Jockey Club during the first half of the 1929 season, and despite the fact that the Club have de molished all the stands, betting booths, etc., and that the new stands will not be completed for some time, I am still inclined to the belief, that the remaining half of the season will see the same band of keen and enthusiastic sportsmen who have regularly sup-

I sincerely hope they will come though, for reasons I gave last week, I am not optimistic. But while there is life there's hope! In any case it should be a very pleasant week end round about November 9 to the 19, and the fact that Armistice day is in- eluded will enable very many more people to be present. It was either in 1920 or 1822 that the Interport was in progress upon November 11, and I recolleet vividly, how im pressive was the sight of the large crowd (for there was a tremendous attendance) standing silent for two minutes in a deep ring round the ground. It seemed in a way in- finitely more impressive and solemn than ceremony in the wider ex- panse of an open stare.
