TEN TITLES CHANGE HANDS AT ALDERSHOT.
SCOTTISH SERGEANT'S TRIPLE, VICTORY.
(By.H. M. ABRAHAMS.)
The drive down to Aldershot last! month was like proceeding through the drying room of a laundry, for despite the fact that I frequently travelled at more than double the speed limit and twice as fast as the world's quickest sprinters, not one breath of cooling breeze could I find. In many ways, therefore, the sparsely clad runners at the Army track were to be envied-until they hail to exert themselves.

The half-mile followed. I quite expected a new Army Fecord bere after the good times in the heats. There were seven stattere. At the first corner Lieut. H. C. Patridge (winner of 440 yds. championship two years ago) led, followed by Lce.-Sergt. Owens (the holder) and Lee-Corpl. Norton. By the second corner, however, 2nd-Lieut. R. F. Walter had taken many mand as if he really meant it, and he went well ahead to lend at the bell by four or five yards in 57.9-5s. If this pace was within the real capatity of the leader, then the Army record was sure to go. But in fact it was far too fast, and, though soldiers never die. all the runners faded away badly in the last Inp, with Walter struggling home in just out side two minutes. Owens did 2mins, 2.3-10seer, and the third man 2mins, 3.3-5secs. There is no doubt that, run properly, the time would have been somewhere in the order of Imin. 58.4-5sces.

None of the competitors seemed to get real vim into their jumping. and there was little speed in the ran-up, and in most cases still less height.
