“The system of Trailer Choques was originated in 1801 by the American Exprem Compaor with the object of creating a förm of travel currepey which would give the holder the security of a lattor of credit and at the same time the convenience of local currency. The Company registered the chegaos under the trade name of AMERICAN EXPRESS TRAVELERS CHEQUES the word Travellers" being spelled with one "1". The advantage of the Cheques was so apparent that other banking institutions adopted the system."
