ADEQUATE SUPPLIES FOR KOWLOON AND TAIPO.
At yesterday's meating of the Legislative Council, the Hon. Mr. W. E, L. Shenton naked for information concerning the present position of the water supply in the Colony; the measures the Government have already taken, or planned to meet the present shortage (a) by obtaining supplies of water from outside the Colony and (b) by improving the water supply within the Oolony.
Mr. Shenton also asked what plans had the Government made for preventing the recur- rence of the present shortage.

FURTHER CURTAILMENT OF HOURS OF SUPPLY?
The Director. of Public Works (the Hon. Mr. H. T. Creasy, C.B.E.), replied that the total quaa- tity of water in the shortage and service reservoirs on the island on the morning of the 17th June amounted to 199.75 million gallons. The average drop since June 1 (with fully one inch rainfall) has been 3.2 million gallons a day, which means that, under similar conditions, there is storage to last until August 18.

Concrete Tanks.
The remainder of the tanks (15) are of brick and reinforced concrete construction, nine having been built by the Tung Wah Hospital anthor ities and the last six erected by Government on the new Praya East Reclamation. Six steel tanks have been erected by the Water Works Office at Western Street, Sutherland Street, Western Market, Gilman Street, Douglas Street, and Centre Street.
The total capacity of these tanks is 754 tons.

The construction of a temporary dry weather, flow channel about 3.500 feet in length from the Tytam Bay stream to Tytam Tuk Reservoir has commenced and it is hoped to complete it by the end of July. This work will be later supersedec by the permanent "Dragon's Back' Catchwater. Meantime it is hoped to gain at least 50 million gallons from August to March, 1930, and as it most unlikely that Tytam Tak will overflow this summer, this additional storage will be most wel-
