When Wuchow was being defend ed by the Kwangsi troops against the Canton Army business was at a standstill and most of the wealthy merchants fled. Now they have nearly all returned and business is carried on as, uzual, Kwangtung and Kwangsi silver coins have replaced the badly depreciated Kwangsi banknotes which were in compulsory circulation during the Kwangsi regime.
