THE GENERAL ELECTION IN BRITAIN.
INTERESTING HOME AND FOREIGN PRESS COMMENT:
GUARDED STATEMENT BY MR. RAMSAY MACDONALD.
SIX MORE RESULTS.
After the General Election, then the deluge of comment! The event has roused World-wide interest, and the belief at Home and abroad is that as far as Foreign, Policy is concerned no 'dras. tic changes are to be expected.
Moscow is frankly pleased, not that the Die-Hard boges of Third Internationale interference will be possible in England, but because Labour is pledged to an attempt to resume diplomatic and trade negotiations.
Germany and American say little, but France, while unwilling to see Mr. Baldwin retire, remembers that Mr. Ramsay MacDonald is a good friend of the Republic.
Mr. MacDonald, in a guarded statement, by no means echoes the eager demand of the Daily Herald for Mr. Baldwin's resigna- tion. The Manchester Guardian favours a Liberal-Labour Entente. The Conservative press advises Mr. Baldwin to reconstruct his Ministry and go ahead with cautious and non-contentious legisla tion.

A RECONSTRUCTED CABINET 1.
(THROUGH RECTER'S AGINCY.]
LONDON, June 1. Stalemate, with the accompany; ing spectre of a continuously im- minent Dissolution, is the problem whose successful solution will need a more accommodating spirit ·be- tween the parties than has hitherto been evident.
It is agreed that Mr. Baldwin, with a reconstructed Cabinet (for seven Ministers have been ejected): must meet Parliament on June 25, after which developments are very certain.
There is a conflict of opinion is to whether the Premier thereafter ought to carry on as long as the Liberals will accord active support or whether they should immediate- ly hand over the reins to the Labourites as the biggest Party. In any case the heaviest respon- sibility will devolve "upon the handful of Liberals," which Party is the object of the bitterest of at- tacks.

FOREIGN COMMENT.
PARIS. June 2. Whilst the Radicals and Socialists in France rejoice at the success of Labour in the British elections," French Conservatives and moderates regret the possibility of the retire- ment of the Baldwin Cabinet but find consolidation in the reflection that a British Labour Government would not desert the traditional defence of British Imperial policy including the Entente Cordiale.
