THE DECORATIVE NOTE, TWO COLOURS AND TWO
PRINTED MATERIALS WITH
PLAIN.
Dame Fashion Likes Variety, so although she has declared printed dresses fashionable, those made of plain material are still smart, and foften she likes to combine the two,
can
When Plain and Printed Materials are combined in one dress, some very charming results
be achieved and fickle woman seems to get less tired of these dresses than if they were all over checks pr all over printed dots or flowers,
Sleeves need not be all of one material. Sometimes the top part of the sleeves is combined with a yoke of plain material, while the lower part and the dress itself are of printed stuff..
For Theatre Wear an original idea which attracted attention last month in Paris wasa swathed turban of the same" printed trêpe material which formed, the evening dress.
Worn with long jewelled jade ear- rings the tight-fitting little turban, patterned with bright greens, reds, and blues, looked extraordinarily well.
It seemed to tap fittingly the cleverly draped dress with "deep falling points.
Two Different Materials are often combined in one dress such as organdie and voile, or what is still newer, organdie and printed broad- cloth. The effect is particularly light and ecol looking.
*
There appear to be two destinct styles in these charming little frocks of printed cottons which have made to favourable an impression this summer, The semi-tailored style, and the frankly decorative or pic- ture frocks. But they join hands over the issue of lingerie touches. Often a semi-tailored frock of cotton broad cloth will have a vest of white crgandie or cotton, sometimes of a plain cotton in the predominat- ing tone of the figured material.

WHITEAWAY, LAIDLAW'S.
Whiteaway, Laidlaw's are now showing some pretty frocks of em broidered French voile. There are no two alike and they are priced from $13.50 to $18. The colour combinations are attractive, there is beige embroidered with blue, and white printed with small pink roses.
A Fresh Looking Combination is pastel blue voile with a spot embroidered in white thread, the cut of this dress is particularly attractive. I thought. Another pretty frock in blue and white shows the popularity of frills as a trimming.

DOLLY VARDON FROCKS.
FOR SUMMER EVENINGS.
There are some truly delightful frocks which have just arrived at the Dolly Värdon Hat Shop. They have been designed for summer afternoon and evening wear, and are representative of one of the most charming aspects of the sum-
mer mode.

What could be more charming for a tea dance or for any not too formal evening engagement daring! the hot weather than a picture frock of white mousseline de soin with tiny orange and blue flowers? It is cut with a long full skirt which has the new backward move- ment being shorter in the front, where it opens over a panel of plain tucked ecru organdie. A large bow of soft ribbon in a sunset colour is poised on one hip.
Deliciously old fashioned in, style is a dress of lemon coloured or- gandie with a damask spot. This skirt, too, is cut longer in the bark and is finished with two fairly wide frills round the heft. The bodice has a denture looking ɓchu of the same material edged with valen- ciennes lace, and for decoration streamers of pink, blue and yellow ribbons fall from one hip.

The frills of a frock which is carried out in palest pink voile with small pink flowers, run round the back at the hem, and up, stress- ing the new line, to the waist in front. A how with fong ends of soft satin ribbon the same colour as the flowers completes one of the daintiest summer evening frocks I have seen.
Very chic is a frock of mousseline de soie which has a large indeter- minate flower pattern in emerald green and a cleverly chosen pink. The skirt is made in two tiers, and
a charming decorative note is struck By the collar, Peter Pan shaped in front, and falling like a cape to the waist at the back, of fine feru lace. A narrow velvet ribbon of emerald green marks the hip line.
Ribbon ateamers falling from the back of a little lace collar make an effective and very new trimming to another frock, while an overdress fastened at the waist with two ribbon flowers is the novel finish to yet another model.
Altogether delightful, youthfal without loss of chic," and "as- tonishing becoming to women of widely varying ages," are three of the ways in which these little frocks have been mentioned to me by different friends within the last three days.
