"The system of Travellers' Cheques was originated in 1801 19 the American Express Company with the object of creating s förm of travel currency which would give the holder the security of s letter of credit and at the same time the confeofence of locat currency The Company registered, the cheques under the trade name of 'AMÉRICAN EXPRESS TRAVELERS,HEQUES ' the word "Travellers' being spëlled with one “!”. The advantage of the Cheques was so apparent that other banking institutions adopted the system.
