CANTON TRADE NOTES.

Prices of rice and other food- stuffs have not been so high in the East River country districts, as was the case two weeks ago.

The four market in this Colony has been quiet for a long time and Per demand has been lacking, but, ac picul cording to advices from the north, 86.86 there are signs of a revival shortly. The sagar market has remained Black, and prices are low especial ly that of No. 24 granulated sagar which has been reduced to about $7.30 per picul, this being an almost unprecedented

RUMOURS OF OFFER BY U.S. INTERESTS.

Great interest has been created in Shanghai by a rumeur which is freely circulating to the effect that American interests have made an offer for the Shanghai Tramway undertaking.

The Shanghai trams are owned by the Shanghai Electric Construc tion Co., Ltd.
