AN APPEAL TO REASON.
Weary of the strife within their barders, the various Provinces are showing signs of submitting out- wardly to some of the dictates of the Kuomintang. It is inevitable. however, that a reaction must set in.
The Kuomintang is hot by any means a strictly representative organisation. Centrifugal forces, which have always been the reni problem in the country, are bound to assert themselves from time, to time, and occasions will continue to present themselves when the iron shard and sword of Nanking will be taxed to the utmost to maintain. the power and prestige of the Central Government.

Kwangtung has declared war on Kwangsi and is concentrating. her main forces on Shinhing on the West River. But Kwangsi is making a bold attack against the neighbouring province and troops are being rushed down the West River with the idea of A simul- staking everything on a pitched battle near Shiuhing. taneous advance will be made against Tsing Yuen on the North- River. The idea is to cut the Canton-Hankow Railway and swoop down on Canton itself.
Ho Chien's advance from the aorth is being practically diste garded. Kwangsi have two able and energetic soldiers in Li Chung Jen and Pei Chung Hai, they have the interior lines, and, if their troops fight, they may well spring a surprise on Kwangtung.
Our Canton correspondent gives the following account of the situation.

ARMED ROBBERY AT WANCHAI.
DAYLIGHT AFFAIR IN LEE TUNG STREET.
HAUL OF NOTES AND JEWELLERY,
An armed robbery was carried out yesterday afternoon at 2.13 p.m. at No. 6, Lee Tung Street, Wanchai, three men entering the premises and stealing money and jewellery to the value of $204.
At the time of the robbery, there was only one woman in the house." The door happened to be unlocked at the time and the gallant robbers after gaining entry produced re- volvers. They then pushed the woman into a cubicle and after ordering her to keep quiet, ransack ed the place.
The gang took away 836 in notes, n pair of gold bangles, three gold finger rings, one gold wrist watch, one silver watch and a pair of ear rings.
