THE CRAZE FOR MATCHING-FASCINATING NEW STRAWS.
WHAT LOCAL SHOPS ARE SHEWING.
IN LANE, CRAWFORD'S.” Lane Crawford's are showing some novel sets of hat and scarf, or hat and bag. Of the latter two caught my attention.
Baku stra woven in a small blue and white check in basket weave makes one hat, a cloche banded with white and navy felt The accompanying bag is a semi- circular pochette, with a zipper) fastering along, the top, of navy felt trimmed with a band of thei blue and white straw. The other set, hat and open bag, is of un- bleached linen with a flower cut from cretonne stitched to either with a trellis work of gold threads.
An interesting hat and scarf set is composed of a capeline of nigger brown baku with a black brim, which is trimmed with a swathe of the same crepe de chine-printed in circles of red and burnt orange on black, which forms the scarf.

Very charming is the circular shoulder cape of printed green paisley georgette which accompanies a small cloche of dull green baku trimmed with the same silk. eharming toque is carried out in oyster tagel and silk crash printed! in largish red, white, and black checks. The accompanying scarf is of the same crash.
CHEZ PAMELA:
Pamela is showing this week a most attractive collection of mil- linery at prices which are unusual- ly low for this establishment,` run-| ning as they do from $13.50 to $17.60.

They are French and English made hata and though it does seem rather ridiculous to say so, they are in my opinion, better made than the more expensive models) which have come previously from some of the big houses. Of course, these more costly hats had an in- dividuality and chie which means that each one was specially design- ed, but there is nothing to com- plain about in the chic of the new-
comers.

Most of the garden party hats which were specially ordered for the occasion of Prince Henry's visit, were eagerly snapped up but I noticed that there remained one or, two lovely flower-like hats of fine crin" straw in pastel shades when I was in the shop on Wednes day.

«Scarlet and Lacquer Red,..." One shelf is piled with scarlet and lacquer red straws, some of them tending to 2 true cherry colour. They are made mostly of straw silk, or paillusmu, but. I noticed some fine varnished bak and tagel among them. Several of them have a touch of white, or of lido blue, both very smart com. binations, and they made a most |attractive display.

Hats and Scarf. There are
some delightful hat and scarf sets, made entirely of printed érépe de chine in the new conventional designs which general- ly have a check or spot effect. The hats, which are stitched all over, are small duche shapes. I saw one of these sets worn as an accompani ment to semi-tailored tennis. frock cf white silk, and a very charming combination it made. A photograph in one of the leading fashion magazines shows a manne- nequin wearing an exactly similar silk hat and scarf set, with a simply cut white frock of organdie, with & fairly bouffant skirt.

Telt and Straw.
Felt and straw is being much used this season by the big designers,
especially for medium sized cloche shapes. It is a style which ofers an endless variety in treatment and colour. Especially attractive here will be the straw which has a felt crown-this is often put on slightly full like a tam half way up the Sometimes the crowns it offers more protection against the sun.
