"GENERAL HIGGINS AND

THE
AMERICAN SUGGESTIONS ADOPTED BY THE COUNCIL.
NO DANGER OF A FUTURE SPLIT IN THE RANKS.
DISPOSITION OF ARMY'S BUSINESS ASSETS.
[EXCLUSIVE TO THE DAILY PRESS.")
London (U.P.) There is every evidence that the unity of the Salvation Army, is stranger than ever after the recent High Council meetings. We have received about A thousand messages from all parts of the world expressing in the highest terms the fullest satisfaction with the results of the council. About half that number came from America" said Genera! Edward Higgins, new leader of the Salva tion Army, in an exclusive inter- view with the United Press.

minds they wanted to see altered for the good of the army. The unity of the stmy meant as much to them as it meant to me. The American delegation played a noble and great part in all the discus sions. They showed a remarkable ability to grasp the situation. They were unselfish and thought of nothing but to help the good cause. Their
whole attitude was so splendid that criticism is beyond any words of mine."
The General explained that some of the American delegation's sug gestions had been acted upon. For instance, the position of Com- mander Evangeline Booth is some what different now from that of commanders in other parts of the world. Again, the American Sal- vation army now has power to deal with schemes involving larger sums of money than was allowed them te. fore and without reference to head. quarters in London. They are also allowed to appoint their own officers, which they could not do prior to the high council meetings. General Higgins emphasised that there is no change whatever in his cwn position from that of General Booth when he was in office. He explained, however, that be had given the high council certais mazurances regarding his leadership,

The policy of the army in the future will be the same as in the. past, the General declared.
Our principles remain the same and of course will never alter," he said, "Our methods we must alter with the times. The methods of fifty years ago are not suitable for the present day world. Fifty years ago it was the cymbal and the big drum, now it is the band and a very good band it must be,.
