THE CHARLES HARDOUIN CASE.
TO BE HEARD THIS MORNING.
The case against Jar Chow Hoo, manager of the Sai Nam S.S. Co. (uwners of
the 5.5. -Charles
Hardouin) who is alleged to have unlawfully gone to the navigation | bridge at the vessel whilst under way off Castle Peak Bay on April 10. was adjourned until this morn ing at 10.30 owing to the absence of the master of the a.. Charles Hardouin.
The Marine Magistrate, Comdr. G. F. Hole, intimated to Mr. F. E. Ioseby who appeared for the de- fendant, that he could not proceed with the hearing in the absence of the master, and that he decided to adjourn until this morning when the master could be proseat. Mr. G. K. Hai Brutton who represent ed the Chief Officer of the Charles Hardouin, Mr. A. G. Corbin, is to conduct the case against the de- fendant.
A Serious Offence, The coxswain of the steam launch Tai Hing was before the Marine 3,633 Magistrate with carrying 16 passen- gers in excess of the number allowed on his license. Lance-Sergt. Riddell prosecuted and said that the de fendant's boat was only licensed to carry 89 passengers, whereas 133 were found on board the launch at Tai.O.

The Magistrate imposed a heavy fine of $200 or three months' im prisonment remarking that it was very serious offence as it endan gered life. His Worship also in structed Sergeant Riddell to keep a good look out for this sort of offerice.

A Few Arrival.
The Ruth (Norwegian), a steel screw steamer of 2,225 tons arrived at daylight yesterday on her first visit to the Colony. She was built in 180 by Messrs. C. S. Swan & Hunter, Ltd, Newcastle for A/S Brittanic (Brummenacssic & Torger sen 3anagers). Her engines were installed by T. Richardson & Son Hartlepool, and develop 275 N.H.P. Her crew number 29, Capt.
