A HONG KONG ELEVEN

2. THE REST.

The weather was distinctly on the warm side on Saturday when a potential Interport eleven took on were several There the Rest. changes from the original selections, and 'Dobbie, crossed over to the Rest as he will not be in Hong Kong next November, more's the pity. The Hong Kong side was quite a useful one and at least six of the side are pretty sure Interporters. But it was very short of good bowling.

A start was made a few minutes before one and lunch was taken at 1.30. By this time the Rest had scored 43 for the loss of Ernie Fincher and Zimmern. E. C. Fin-

cher was not out in the twenties. "Wales and Bowker each had wicket, bowled, and W. C. Hung, though he did not get one had sent down some good stuff, Then came a good stand between Fincher and Parkhurst which took the score" to 81. The former played very steadily and took no chances while Parkhurst made some nice off drives. Finally Brace went on at the Naval Yard end and Bowker brought off beautiful running catch at mid-on. Two balls later Dobbie was early for one and was caught off a skyed one in the same

place. 81-4-C.

Further disaster way to come for Mitchell after nice hook for four off Owen Hughes jumped in to drive, missed it. and was splen- didly stumped by Pearce who had the bails off in a flash. Commander Baker was well taken close ir at short leg off another short one of Braec's and six were down for 93. Singleton stayed with Fincher for a bit and the geore rose to 117, when the Naval man put yet another of Brace's short ones into short leg's hands. Fincher's 'excellent innings "came to an end five runs later as one popped up very quickly on the off stump, so far as one could see, and ho gave an easy chance to second slip. Lee was caught at the wicket off his first ball, and Waters du manage to connect with one of Brace's only to frid Bowker waiting for it at deepish mid-wicket.

It was not a very good perform ance of the Rest, apart from E. C Fincher, but the wicket had worn and Brace was bowling short and more or less on the batsman's body the whole time with just a bit of and a very nasty varying pace, amount of kick. He was extremely hard to play and his analysis of seven wickets for twelve runs in 10 overs reflects the difficulty the bats- men had. Five of his seven wickets were taken at square or forward short leg. Fincher though 'slow was steady, and gave, no chance that I saw, though I missed the first half hour of his knock

With only 128 to get the Inter- port" side had a fairly easy task. Anderson and Hayward started but at 9 the former nicked a fast leg ball from Dobbie and Zimmern leap- ing across with wonderful agility secured a brilliant catch behind the With 25 the sticks.

down 4 Parker put board' beauty which turned about three inches from leg and beat and bowled Hayward, who was batting confidently. Then came the best cricket of the match." Pearce and Brace, the two best bats in the Colony took charge of things. In vain Dobbie changed bis bowling, Baker was clearly off form and though Parker and Dobbie bowled well and steadily, the score mount- ed steadily to 108, when Brace, har ing driven Lee beautifully along the carpet for four, lifted a high one to Dobbie at deep mid-off in trying to repeat the stroke.

At

better but he does not seem to be getting men out as he did Ander- son at present is not to Interport form, in bowling anyway, and Hung, like Bowker, neems so often to bowl quite well but get no one out.
