MARKET TENDENCIES.
We have received the following letter from Mesars Pentreath Co.. to whom it was forwarded on February 96 by Meers. Hornby Hemalryk & Co., Liverpool.
The market has been quies but very steady during the past week, and prices are about 15 points higher compared with these ruling a week ago.
The stendiness may be attributed in part to a somewhat better 'de mand from the East for cloth.
Manchester reports an improved enquiry for cloth, especially from China and the demand from India is also showing improvement now that the riots are ovar.
Although quiet conditions have prevailed latterly in American tex- file circles, latest advices are more encouraging regarding the outlook. For the past four months, the price has remained just over 10d.. and this at a period of the year when one expects normally to see weak markets. of 23,875,000 acres, compared with $2,812,000 last year, and of 3,200,000 bales, the same authority says that owing to the beavy frost which occurred in the early part of this month, the Government estimate of the yield excludes Gujarat entirely. This is a district which produces approximately 750,000 bales of Dhollera-Bhaunagar, Broach and Surti cotton. If the probable pro- duction in the Gujarat is included, the Government figure works out about-430,000 bales larger than the errresponding estimate last seator or about 75,000 bales less than the third Government forecast December 20, 1929.
