PLAYERS AND PROSPECTS.

Today's full league programme contains some interesting games. At Caroline Hill, the Police receive China Athletic. The meeting of these teams is always welcome as some close finishes have been seen. The Police will be without Wynne a1 it is rumoured that he dislocated bis ankle in the Shield replay with the Club de Recreio in mid-week. With the defence thus weakened, the Athletic should win. Now that they are not interested in the Shield competition, they will put forth strenuous efforts to retain the league championship which they won last year. A win to-day will give them the lead, as South China, the present leaders are not out.

Another interesting game should be that at Sockunpoo between the K.O.S.B. and Club de Recréin Should the Recreio feld their strongest side they should annex the points. In view of the strenuous game in the Shield replay in mid- week, they are likely to have a few of their regular players resting. The K.O.S.B. will be at full strength and should return with at least a point.

h

The Gunners have font.several players by the departure yesterday of the Somersetshire." They are due to meet the E.K.F.C. on the Club ground to-day and Leach is expected to turn out to assist them. A close game should be seen with the result in doubt until the final whistle sounds.

FANLING HUNT.

GRAND NATIONAL STEEPLECHASE,

MY LADY AND ACE OF SPADES ENGAGED.

SOME FANCIES FOR SUNDAY,

[BY EARY BIRD.]

During the last week or so,na subject has excited more dis- cussion in racing circles than the chances of the candidates who have been entered for the Fanling Grand National, which is to be devided at Kwanti racecourse next Sunday.

It is remarkable how different the general opinion is "from the view of the handicapper who has awarded My Lady. Bud Ace of Spades the big burden of 175 each in the big race, when such consistent performers as Caviare,

You Like It and Fanling Stag are treated with such surprising consideration. All the ponies mentioned are carrying consider ably less than weight for inches, and with James Pigg, another tried contender, only carrying weight for inches, in spite of his many distinguished performances, I'am inclined to the belief that the job of picking the winner is going to be something of a puzzle to our judges of steeplechasing.

Altogether there are five very interesting events on the pro- gramme and with felds of 15, 10, 18, 11 and 18 entries the racing. should provide a good deși of interesting competition.

I have been requested to inform racegoers that owing to mistake the names of Target and Wowser have been omitted from the second race.

every

In view of the importance of the meeting great activity has been shown by owners who have been having their charges schooled almost afternon this week. Dr. Pierce Grove, the hard working M.F.H., has been on the course morning and evening and with the assistance of Mr. E. M. Hazeland has endeavoured to have everything in apple pie order for the recep-

tion of the biggest crowd of steeple- chase supporters it has been their lot to handle since the inception of the Fanling Hunt steeplechases. «

Mr. TE. Bulteel, who has just returned from long leave and is now attached to H.M.S. Hermes, will be riding at the meeting. Mr. Mackler, Mr. Branie Hartnell and Mr. Hardt are the names of some of the new riders who will be sport ing silk at the meeting.

Fanling Grand National Handicap. Although Ace of Spades and My Lady will be the big attraction on Sunday, backers will not be able to get any money out of them as they will both be at prohibitive odds, so they will have to look else where to cover their expenses.

The handicapper has certainly set the two cracks a heavy task, but I am confident that in spite of the weights they will fill the first and second places. James Pigg or Farling Stag should take the other place.
