The committee's report presented at the aboual meeting in Singapore of the Straits Merchant Service Guild. (Capt. F: Caithness presid- ing), abowed that the Guild has a total membership of 191.

The hon. treasurer (Mr. J. W. "Harries) reported that the general.. reserve fund of the Guild showed a normal increase, due to investment earnings, but it was with pleasure that be drew the attention of mem- bers to the item of 833,000 which was the gilt of the Mercantile Mariae Fund. This made their total available funds for the new buildings, 857,038. It was gratify- ing to note that the cash balance in 1938 was almost double that of the corresponding period in 1997, The latter stood at 82,616, while in 1928 the figure was 85,012.
