The system of Travellers" Cheques was originated in 1891 by the American Express Company with the object of creating a form of stravel ourivacy which would give the holder the security of a letter of credit and atțibe xaZZA time the convenience of local currency, The Company registered the cheques under the trade name of AMERICAN EXPRESS TRAVELERS' CHEQUES' the word 'Traveller being speiled with one *1".
