A SENSE OF COLOUR.
LOVELY CURTAIN FABRICS AT WHITEAWAY'S.
It is always astonishing to the lover, of colour to find that many people have little colone sense or appreciation of the effect, of one hue on another. Of course, every body uses the expression clash " with regard to "colours, but few realise that the discord which they mean by that word is not caused by the close juxtaposition colours, but of a disharmony of tone. Two reds do not of a neces- aity clash, even when one is n "yellow" red and other a "blue" red, but two tones of the same red may kill each other.

Thero is an interesting lesson in colour harmony staged at present in Whiteaway, Laidlaw's furnish- ing department, although its raison. l'être is, of course, to display the various. curtain fabrics DOW stock, Clever use has been made of a length of rainbow cloth draped over the first arch, which contains nearly all the colours useti in the scheme. This material has a delightful silk finish, and is shot. through its double width, with a large number of colours, probably those of the spectrum. The effect is soft and very pleasing. Behind this came silk curtain nets in gold, pink, and blue, che behind the other, and it is danked by suitably chosen rretonnes echoing the same colour scheme. Over a stand, im- mediately under the first arch, is draped a gorgeous velvet eretonne which gives a strong note of colour, and holds the whole thing together.
For anyone who feels timid about the use of onlour, and the introduc tion of more than one colour in a furnishing scheme, this display should be illuminating and instruc tive The materials used are all separately pleasing, and suggested to me all sorts of crying needs in the decorative scheme of my own
rooms.

BEAUTY.
THE VALUE OF REGULAR TREATMENT.
Going to a beauty parlour now and then will not do much good in retaining youthful beauty. Regular home treatments or regular treat- meats under the hands of experts→ will do much more in the long run. The point is that regularity is the most important factor in any beauty treatments no matter where you get them. But as far as Hong Kong is concerned, I can recOM- mend the Darelle Beauty Shop with every confidence.
Some women seem to think they have done their bit toward keeping. themselves up by spending az bour or two at the nearest beauty par- lour six or seven times a year. Their hair, nails and akia will go neglected for months and then, on the eve of some large party, they have a shampoo, a wave, facial, and a manicure and then wonder after spending all that money, why they don't look as well as some "of the other women at the party.
The secret of these other women's charin is that they never let a day pase without caring for their nails; cleansing, stimulating, and nourish ing their skin; and brushing their hair. Every ten days or every two weeks they have a definite time sat aside for a shampoo and a wave and for a manicure if they do not do their nails themselves.
The other little details such as bleaching the skin of face and neck occasionally, masaging their elbows with cream, keeping the cuticle free of the nails and the nailswell abaped and polished, massaging the scalp, trimming the eyebrows-all these are done at regular intervals.
