Tropics They are naturally of cool materials and have that in- formality and daintiness which looks best when the weather is warm. One is of palest on green talle which is starred with little clusters of silver sequms each secured by a crystal bead. A mass- ing of the sequins gives the effect of a, swathed silver sash broaden ing over the left hip. On the right hip ia posed a large tulis bow. The ikirt is full and soft, and a pale green silk slip finishes what is a very charming little gown.
Fifty hats were ordered by the Dolly Vardon Hat Shop for the races, and each one was specially created So that we should get them in time a workshop over the seas was disorganised, and all the little falta and turban straws put

The broidered with silk of the same result is a collection which really, shade and has white lace appliqué I think, surpasses anything which on the br Navy has a twisted the Dolly Vardon has shown us becord of two shades of violet-blue fore, and that is saying a great ribbon, and a cluster of dark blue deal.
velvet fowers. Another navy has white lace-embroidered in pastel shades, appliqué round the crown. Pale pearl grey is made lovely with a broad velvet ribbon and three orchid fowers
They are made of the softest silk "crinoline straw with wide gracefully drooping brima some turned up be hind and others left loose. The trimmings arë, in some cases, clusters of velvet flower heads, but there are orchids, roses and other larger blossoms as well, with gen- erally a band of velvat or corded ribbon. The colours the softest pastel shades.
These hats have been designed to accompany smart afternoon frocks of georgette and lace. Although the weather has not permitted such "attire in the ladies' enclosure in. Happy Valley this week, where we hoped to wear them, there are many more occasions coming when we shall be able to look, as nearly every woman does, our loveliest in thin silk and lace. Nothing could be more charming for bridesmaids, for
How often the occasion arises when one needs a mmarily simple dress for informal afternoon, or dinner wear black, lustrous crépe satin dress will solve your problem. The pictured frock has a three tier skirt. The ap- plied shaped bands of the sleeves are cut from the wrong side of the fabric. Black velvet with (collar and tis ̈ of écru^Alencon

Thery is also a wonderful collee tion of mall hats, in some delight ful new straws, one of which is like very fine silk canvas, another like a fine il bankok. There are crochet strawe plaited straws, and an interesting basket weave straw which gives a shot effect of two colours. Other hats are braided on a fine wool canvas, darned and em- broidered with wool, silk and straw. I have not space to enter into any partiamfare of these small models, but they make a most de lightful collection, and I noticed that besides the beiges, which seem to be in particularly good tones this season, thirds were a lot of blacks, scarlets and fido blues..
THATS AND FROCKS.
AN INTERESTING SLEEVE.
AU PETIT LOUVás, you can now find some pleasing white straw and white felt they are models of a certain importance, hot for sports weary and generally have a cleverly introduced piece of colourT. One white felt, for instance, has a band of velvet ribbon" white over blue which ties in the new front bow. There are a number too of smart straws in colours, and a big. shipment is expected, I understand, to-morrow.
I noticed two afternoon frocks of georgette which were interesting because they demonstrate the use of braiding which is so popular a fashion this spring. One of them alms has a new and interesting sleeve. Apricot beige georgette has a scalloped hip yoke embroidered" in a best design in white silk in cable stitch, which looks like braid- ing, with a few touches of gold thread. The skirt is a full circular one and the neck is finished with a neat turn down collar.
The other frock similar in cut is of moss green and has a scalloped hip yoke piece which is braided in beige silk. The bodice is decorated with a U shaped vest similarly braided. The sleeves are cut to a curious peak just above the wrist, rather like a musketeer gauntlet, and there is sa applique piece of beige georgette braided with the same silk. The collar is also of beige georgette.
Somewhat similar is a frock of pale orchid tulle, worn over silk of the same colour The sequins are here arranged in scalloped lines which follow the cut of the skirt, while there is a pretty shoulder cape at the back. The skirt is long at the back and sides
I noticed too a couple of very nice dresses beaded on French voile, one lemon, yellow and the other pink. Both are closely embroidered with crystal and beads, and the pink one has a clever mggestion of sunburst drapery, achieved by means of lines, radiating from the left hip, of gold sequins. dress has a well out godet on the left side which gives an uneven hem line.
