THE HON. MR. SOUTHORN'S CONGRATULATIONS.
A year of antisfactory progresa in the various branches of the schools activities was reported by the Headmistress of the Belilios Public School at the annual prize giving held in the hall of Queen's College lent for the occasion. Success in examinations, in physical training, in the Girl Guide movement, and in social service for others were points touched upon in the report. The Headmistress also appealed for, endowments for girls to enter the University after their school life and, the need for an Assembly Hall and playing felds was stressed.

Those who had the unfortunate ex- perience of being in the Province four years ago, when the earth- quakes did considerable damage, were hysterical with fright, ns no one who has been a victim of such nordeal can possibly realise what it is like and the effect upon the ne ves. Most people are overcome by giddiness just before the quake
