NEW ORDINANCE TO BE SUBMITTED TO LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

TO BRING CONSTITUTION INTO LINE WITH LEADING BRITISH BANKS,

A shareholders meeting of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank- ing Corporation, held in the City Hall, on Saturday morning, passed an important resolution, authorising amendments to the Bank's Ordinance and Deed of settlement by the Legislative Coun- cil. The Bank's present period of incorporation expires in August, and it is considered desirable that the Legislative Council should be asked to make the incorporation permanent,

The capital of the Bank is to remain what it is but powers, are asked to add to the capital it though necessary and with the Government's consent, to $50,000,000. Other proposed changes were touched upon by the Chairman and are set out at length in the new Ordinance and the new Regulatione.

The changes, said the Chairman of Directors (Mr. A. H. Compton) had become necessary owing to the unforeseen, develop ment of the Bank by its original founders and will bring its coa- stitution into line with those of the principal British Banks.
