The system of Travellers' Chequer was originated in 1991 by the American Express Company with the object of creating a form of wavel Tourrency which would give the holder the security of a letter of credit and sifike same time the convenience of local currency. The Company regatered the chequel under the trade name of AMERICAN EXPRESS TRAVELERS CHEQUES the word #Travellers being spelled with one "1" The advantage of the Cheques was so apparent that other banking institutions adopted the system."
