Nature had her way."
Sir Arthur Keith, one of the Teatest of living scientists, said this to the United Press correspon- dent in London during a conver sation in which he disagreed with the contention of Doctor Surge Vorono, the famous rejuvenation authority, that man could and should be made to live one hundred
years or more.

ly awaiting their turn. I think the same, should apply to human life. When the old generation has lived its life it should make way for the younger onë.”
Asked if he did not fear any premature disappearance of the elder generation might cause future young scientists to lose the benefit of their predecessors' experience, Sir Arthur replied:-
L
"There are bocks-alas, far too many of them now-a-days-which can be filled with the experiences of the old. Let the older generation hand on its experiences in writ-

Forty dve The Ideal Age. Forty-five is nature's ident for man. It is at this age that one can say that human life begins to age." He paused a moment. thes, Bettling himself into a more com- fortable position in the swivel-chair he occupied in front of a desk piled up high with papers, proceeded to elaborate his views upon the subject. Slowly and deliberately he spoke. His voice was ao gentle that it was only just audible to his visitors.
Is it not at that age that the average changes of life occur?" he asked. Then he himself replied to the question with an emphatic ex- clamation: "Of course it is!"
"And" he continued, is it not at that age that the sight, the hear ing and other functions of the average human body commence to grow somewhat wenker and after anawering himself in the affirmative Sir Arthur explained:-
"Prior to the era of civilization the normal age attained by men and women was from forty to fifty. Civilization, acting as the world's hothouse gradually extended this between sixty-five and age to seventy-five. Now-a-days some even desire it to be prolonged over the century mark. I think it is one of the most foolish of things for men to want such a long life.
Restriction Of Life A Good Thing,
The great British scientist then expressed the opinion that the in- terests of the world at large would best be served if human life were restricted to an age at which each individual would produce the maximum of his ability. It might be the desire of individuals to have their lives prolonged, he said, "but it is not what the individual wants which should be considered, it is what is best for the majority"
Sir Arthur then discussed Fero- noff's theory that man can be made to live over a century by means of monkey-gland graft:-
"I am glad to think that Voronoff, is promising the human race far more than he can ever give it. There are no facts that I know of to support the doctor's belief that the grafting of merely one of the many glands in the human body can j make men live past the entury mark," "be declared, and then ex- plained:- $
"The growth of the human body is a complex process. There is no doubt that this process is consider ably influenced by giands, but in my opinion, Voronoff has more or less exaggerated their importance. Let me give you an example.

What I criticize is especially Voro- noff's optimism. The trouble is that he cannot furnish the body with any new or continued source of energy, therefore, I look upon his experiments as simply, acting as a stimulus which bucks up a man temporarily. In effect he has simply succeeded · in stimulating last remaining atom af elergy, in tired human bodies, making them feel like a man just after he has bad half a glass of whisky. And I believe that the result must be pro- portionally short-lived.

The more complex life becomes, the more truths we must see's, but spiritualista lack evidence, and there is nothing I know of which convinces me that the world is not ruled by material causes. However, I am quite willing to be convinced. It is entirely a question of credu- lity."
