His early efforts were rather dia appointing. In four years from the age of 18, he had written nine plass. None of these were pro- duced on the stage and he found it exceedingly difficult to get any of his earliest works even read by London managers.
On the advice of a friend, he decided to abandon his original idea of forming a new school of English dramatic art and spend a further two years in careful study of the works of contemporary. writera
