An air of peace very foreign to the hustle of the last few days reigns in the shopping centre to- day. Most of the shops kept open until 6 or 6.30 p.m. during, the week before Christmas, and yester day being Christmas Eve they were especially busy. Perhaps the very warm weather which we have been enjoying has made people more dilatory than usual about buying their Christmas gifts, but however, that may be there can be few shops in Hong Kong, among those at all events which cater for Europeans, which were not more than satisfied with the business done yesterday.
