messure of surprise at the extreme coniași.. ivision I. ly slow progress which is being made in the First Division of the League. Last Saturday week there were two matches down for de cision, but only one was played. there Last Saturday Bs ever wSA were no games at all. I shall prob ably be told that it is because there was a match Combined League team v. University Past and Present. I confess I see no reason for such a match and I see a great deal against it. It upsets the pro- gramme. It spoils. several other matches by removing regular play ors from their own sides. And it is usually apt to be a bit of a farce. I am well aware that this is my own opinion and that several pro- minent cricketers disagree with me. I think the fact is that the idea was that the game should be played on a Sunday. To this I cannot see the slightest objection and on the whole it would appear to be an excellent or other it idea. But somehow
crept into the fixture list on a Satur day and then got forgotten. Tha result was that none of the Hong Kong C.C. men could play, as they True, this were already booked!
was rather a blessing in disguise! for as it was the University got swamped pretty badly. I shall refer to the match elsewhere.
As regards the League. comment ing on the short-comings of its ad ministration is perhaps ungracious. But frankly there does seem regi I believe for reform somewhere.
there there is far too much work to be got through at the meeting at the beginning of each season. Things would run easier if there was a preliminary meeting to de- eide the terms and conditions of the League for that season: an interval for Club Secretaries to fix up their programmes; and a Snal League meeting whereat the united programmes could be approved and any other matters of business dealt everything Το with.
scramble through between 5.30 and 7.30 p.m. is too much of a rush.
Second Division Besults. The failure of Indian's II. to defeat the RA.S.C. was an un- fortunate set-back for them. They apparently had the game in hand. I am glad to find that F. M. cl Arculli is sufficiently recovered from his very nasty motering accident to play cricket. No doubt as he gets on he will prove a most useful ad- dition to the side if he does not resume his place in the first. The R.A.S.C. batsmen apparently found: the bowling very steady for of this forty overs sent down by the L.R.C.

home will, I think, win, and this applies to their second elevens who are also matched. But owing to examinations the Varsity are very auch out of practice, and they will be lucky to do more than draw. C.S.C.C. visit Kowloon and the home team should win unless any thing unforeseen occurs. A draw, however, is quite probable if the C.S.C.C. bats come off.
In the Second Division the Civil Service have to tackle the Police and. should win unless King and Lacey upset their calculations. But they will have to field better. The Club second should beat K.C.C. II. as they include Mitchell, Armstrong, Evers, Duckitt and Lammert who have all played frequently for the first eleven.

The Small Units and the Hong Kong FC. are fighting it out at the bottom of the League table. The 10.08 Units are without a point to date and they have to play extremely well if they wish to break that record to-day. The Units defence is weak and Goldman should be well to the fore to-day with Alexander 10.20" and Scott playing inside. The Olub should win.
