TMPORTS STILL GOOD.

INCREASE IN THROUGH FREIGHTS.

The general cargo returns for the period ending at Dam yesterday | showed a slight decrease in loen imports, which however, remained good. Through cargo showed an increase of about 3,000 tons. Out of fifteen arrivals and eighteen. departures, four arrivals and eight British departures were British. contributions to the imports and through cargo were only fair.

Local imports from fourteen ves- sels amounted to 11,19 tons, of which 3,690 tons were contributed reus, Dec. 20th. by four British ships. The best returns were from the as. Escondida (Norwegian) with 2,050 tons of general cargo from Bangkok and Kosichang: and the as President Pierre (American) with 1,650 tons from Los Angeles and Shanghai.

Seven, vessels carried a total of 14,081 tons of merchandise for through ports, of which only 2,481 tons were in two British ships. The 5.3. President Pierce (U.S.A.) had 1.981 tons of general merchandise from U.S.A. and Manila. The s.s. Enida (German) from Bremen and Manila also carried 3,017 tons.

Tresillian (British) arrived from Southampton and Singapore with 1,900 tons of general cargo for Hong Kong and 2,000 tors for ports be yond.

New Mathilde (British) arrived from Haiphong and Haihow with 1,570 tons of general merchandise for Hong Kong.

Ninghai (British) arrived from Shanghai and Amoy with 300 tona of general cargo for Hong Kong.

Chinkiang (British) arrived from Shanghai with 510 tons of generai cargo for Hong Kong and 463 tons of merchandise for through ports.

"President Pierce, (American) ar rived from Los Angeles, California, and Shanghai with 1,630 tons of canned goods, machinery, groceries. Chinese merchandise, provisions and general cargo, and 3,251 cons of machinery, autos, canned goods, fruit, flour and vegetables for porti beyond.

President Madison (U.S.A.) är- rived from Manila with' 193 tons of cigars, cigarettes, cobra meal, junk, rope and general cargo for this

port, and 2,831 tons for through

porta.

Fulda (German) arrived from Bremen and Manila with 707 tons ot general cargo for Hong Kong and 3.017 tons for ports beyond the Colony.

Porthos (French) arrived from Shanghai with 002 tons of silk and general cargo for through ports.

Sony Bo (French) arrived frain Haiphong and Fort Bayard with 1.300 tons of general cargo for th's

port.

5.S. "TRESILLIAN" FROM SOUTHAMPTON.

The .. Tresillian (British) which arrived here yesterday from South- ampton and Singapore was making her first visit to this port. The ves sel carried 1,300 tons of general merchandise for Hong Kong and 2,000 tons for ports beyond the Colony. The vessel is owned by Foster, Hain & Company for whom Messrs. Mackinnon and Mackenzie are the local agents.

The vessel has a nett tonnage of 2,972 tons and was built in 1025 by Messrs. W. Gray & Co., Ltd of W. Hartepool for the Han Steamship Co., Ltd. (Foster Read Lad. managers). dimensions are: Length 400 feet,

The 58. Fuat On which arrived, "KASHMIR" here on Monday night from Kong-" "MUREA" moon lost her starboard propeller an hour after leaving that port. The vessel was obliged to make the rest of the journey on one propel ler. It was stated that a serious mechanical defect developed with the result that the tail shaft and propeller were lost. The vessel was taken to the Taikon. Docks for re- pairs yesterday afternoon.
