It will be seen that the number passengers arriving in the Colony by Ocean steamers slightly exceeds the departures. The river steamers show a greater number of departures than, arrivals, but the difference in the junk and launches section is little. The departures ex- ced the arrivals by nearly 19,000.

Asiatic Deck Passengers. Six vessels brought 501 Asiatic deck passengers to the Colony dur ing the 24 hours ended at 9 am. yesterday,

Master Of Japanese Schooner Heavily Fired. Chueng Ming.. master of a Japanese motor schooner s.a. Taboo Mart appeared before Commander J. B. Newill, D.S.O., R.N., at the Marine Court yesterday morning for (a) leaving the port without a clearance permit from the Harbour' Master on December 8tb, (b) using an unlicensed motor-schoofer, (e) being underway without a certificat ed. çoxswain. · Lance-Sergt. Hudson prosecuted and the defendant pleaded guilty and said that he did not know the regulations. This was bis first visit to the Colony and be was going to Taiwan, Formosa, with a cargo of sugar and general mer- chandise. The Magistrate imposed a fine of 823 on each charge, 8100 or three months' hård labour.

Fishing In Prohibited Areas. Four masters of finishing junks also appeared for failing to screen their fishing lights, and for fishing in "a prohibited area. Lance-Sergt. Butcher prosecuted and all four de- fendants pleaded guilty. One de fendant stated that he had been in the Colony for 10 years and was not aware of the regulation.

The defendants who were fishing in the prohibited area at Cape Collason were eached fined $10.
