One of the chiefs of the Salvation Army here said to me to-day that Mrs. Johnson's disappearance had come as a tremendous shock to all the religious workers in the district. "We were all quite certain," he said, "that Mrs. Johnson would receive the fortune which she said. was coming to her, She was A model Salvation Army worker Her ardoor and unflagging, en thusiasm were a lesson to all of us.

She was supposed to be the widow of a naval officer. I know she had a small pension, and I now understand that her husband had been in the Navy. She had been

"Mrs. Johnson had previously never said a word to my knowledge almut having any expectations. Her disappearance put me into a painfal position. It fell to me to explain the matter to the memher of the Salvation Army here."
