HONG KONG RACES.

BOXING EVE WINS ST. ANDREW'S STAKES.

WINSOME STAG TAKES AUTUMN

CHAMPIONS.

BY EARLY BIRD.]

The concluding meeting of the 1928 Racing Season was held at Happy Valley on Saturday afternoon, in the presence of a large crowd of racegoers.

Mr. "Eve's" candidate who has been running with great success throughout the senson successfully carried off the St. An- drew's Cup after an exciting finish with Coos Bay and. Pickle.

Winsome Stog, the property of Mr. Chan Tin Sion, succeed- ed in annexing the Autumn Champions from One Third, the only other starter. Mr. Chan is a very popular Chinese sportsmen and wag the recipient of many congratulations from his friends on his success in his first year of racing.

Morgii, Mesers. Stanton and Reidy's little wonder, nearly succeeded in winning the "B" Class Handicap, after a rattling good race with the Duke of Nieblung the verdict was a dead hent which was good for the supporters of both ponies as they paid a handsome dividend.

Mr. R. H. Charles was the most successful rider at the meeting with two wins, one eccond and two thirds.

The course was in very good condition which allowed some, fairly good times to be registered. As there will be an interval of three months before the Annual Meeting I have no doubt an effort will be made to complete the repairs to the nullah which in its present state has beer both disagreeable and inconvenient for some considerable time.

THE RACING.

Glasgow Handicap # A# Class. Only two starters faced the flag for the opening event San Frau- cisco and Moon who are con sidered two of our crack speedsters. The connections of the last named laid the money on thick and hard in this event and bet as if it was a dead certainty but a little brain work on the part of the rider of San Francisco had the effect of knocking a hole in the calculations of the confident backers of the Tittle iron grey. The winder drew the inside berth (which is of vital importance, in a race of this kind) and, springing out into the lead at tht fall of tht flag, waited for the grey to come alongside after which everything in the garden was lovely. Weng tried very hard to get the rail but there was nothing doing as Charles went up when he made a forward movement and back when Weng tried to pull in

behind.

The finish was most exciting with San Francisco declared the winner by the small margin of a head.

Glasgow Handicap "O" Class. A bakera dozen faced the Bag

THE HONG KONG DAILY PRESS, MONDAY, DECEMBER 3rd, 1928.

It was rather unfortunate that the winner laid in on Ocon Bay in the straight as it spoilt an other- wise perfect race. There was no thing to speak of excepting the Boring Eve was pulling excep- tionally hard the first time round and appeared to be giving his rider lots to think about to keep him in position. Up the back straight he looked as if he was going to gallop over the field but he was eventually taken in hand and continued the the remainder of the trip according to his rider's inclination.
