RETURNS.
IMPORTS CONTINUE GOOD.
THROUGH FREIGHTS LOW.
With sixteen arrivals and ten departures for the 24 hours ended 30 am, yesterday the local im- ports showed
a slight increase" over the previous day's returns. Through freights, however, were low. Six British arrival and seven departures were shown.
Fourteen vessels discharged total of 13,889 tons of general mer chandise for this port of which 1,763 tans were contributed by five British ships. The best carriers were shown by the s.8. Malacca Maru arriving from Yokohama and Maji with 4,850 tons of general cargo, and the Shun Chih. (Chinese) from Saigen with 2,000 tons of rice and general cargo. ·

Lance Sergeant Went in evidence said that at about 10 am. November 7th he went on board the ss. Tang Sang to serve the first sutamens which was given to him by Boarding Officer Munn. The defendant was not on board, and witness gave the summons to the Chief Officer who informed witness that the Captain had gone sabore. The same afternoon, he was given the second summons for the same defendant, and going aboard, found that both the Chief Officer and Captain, were ashore. The banded to the
summons W35 Second Officer.
The Magistrate then adjourned the Court after making an order for a warrant to be issued for the apprehension of the defendant.
