NOTES.

[Br R.HE]

It is not discult to for see that in the near future a serious ata;a of affairs, will arise at Fanling. The Old Course is already as hard sa iron and many of the greens are very badly burnt," and tees while even the fairways are show- ing serious signs of the lack of moisture. A week ago the course was looking very brown in some parts, and this has spread to almost every hole with alarming rapidity. As a result pitching and patting are becoining inore and more things of terror or luck, and the gentlest pute will travel quite a surprising distance if the ball does not hit! the hole, while weird and wonder i ful things can happen to a drive when it pitchea. It is certainly still worth playing over the Old Course, for under these conditions shots go

THE HONG KONG DAILY PRESS, TUESDAY, OCTOBER 30th, 1928,

A very interesting programme has been arranged for the week-end between the United Services Ricrea tion Chubs and the Hong Kong Association. The Lawn Tennis- personal of the two teams is not; korn, at the time of writing, but it is understood that the fir matches will consist of two Singles and three will be Double The matches will be played on the U. S. R. C Courts, Kowloon, on Saturday and Sunday, November 3rd and 4th respectively,

Needless to mention, a very ne exhibition is expected. The U.S.R.C. players have, by virtue of their brilliant performaten last Saturday, shown themselves to be a tip-top team and what with Wing omdr. Hunter. Lt. Hale, Major Lucas and Tottenhum playing for them again, they will undoubtedly be able to hold their own against the Lawn Tennis Assocntics team, which will be drawn from the best players of the Colony.

It may have been that the pro- fessor held his English in higher esteem than the doubting London Spiritualists, but anyhow he turned up without the linguistic medium and with a paper written in Eng. lish which he was obviously deter mined to read. Dr. Wallace, the chairman, proffered his services as reader. The confident professor de clined then, and after & little delay Buent but unintelligible
