RETURNS.
GENERAL DECREASE: IN CARGO TOTALS.
THROUGH FREIGHTS STILL GOOD.
There was a general decrease in cargo returns for the period ending at 9 a.m. yesterday, but through cargoes, remained well above the average. Local imports were only moderate.
Eighteen arrivals and ten depar tures were shown of which five ar rivals and three departures were British vessels. British contribu- tions to the returns were low.
Eleven vessels discharged 7,274 tons of general merchandise for this port of which one British ship con- tributed 1,877 tona. The two best carriers were the ss. Hiren (Nor. wegian) from Bangkok and Swatow with 1,800 tons of rice and genera!

Limehow the (French) from Haiphong and Hoi- how had 1,500 tons of general cargo. Eleven vessels carried 19,010 tons of through cargo of which 120 tons were contributed by four British ships. The best carrier was the s Hayebashi Maru 5,100 tons from Zamboanga and Manila also car ried 4,530 tons.

The master of the s... Tai Hing, Captain Owen Wilkes, summoned Niss his Indian Watchman, Mahomed for being sleep whilst on duty, at 1 a.m. on September 23rd. The defendant appeared be fore. Commander J. B. Newill,
"MOREA R.N., D.S.O., at the Marine Court†EASHGAN". yesterday morning but the case was remanded owing to the absence of the .s. Tai Hing from the port.
The defendant pleaded guilty and. stated that on the evening in ques tion he was suffering from stomach- ache and asked the Chief Officer for medicine. A dose of medicine was given to him but the accused said that the pain still remained. "He was found in this state by the Master who returned to the ship late that night.
Boarding Without Permission. For boarding the s.5. Aut Sang without permission of the master boatman pleaded guilty and was fined $25 with the alternative of one month's imprisonment with hard Jabour.
Loitering Off The Waral Yard,
Thres mistresses of sampans were #ummoned for loitering off the Naval Yard Sea wall and pleaded not guilty. The Police Officer in charge of the case, the applied for permission to withdraw the sum- monses as the buoys to which the boats were tied were a considerable. distance from the sea wall.
Lying Inshore,
For lying inshore after dark four mistresses were each fined. 810 with the alternative of 10 days', bard labour.
Asiatic Deck Passengers, Seven vessels brought 634 Asiatie deck passengers to the. Colony dur ing the 24 hours ended at 9 yesterday.
