COMING RACE MEETINGS.

MEETING.

A TWO DAYS' EVENT.

THE HANDICAPS.

I believe that the Interport team "THE SIXTH EXTRA RACE which is to go to Shanghai next month is almost definitely bettled. Ferguson, is course, is to be cap» tain, while Harton will presumably have to meet Badd. If he does the match should be well worth seeing. Dodwell the only member of the team which lost to Shanghai at. Fanling at the beginning of the year, and C. C. Stark and A. E. Lisaaman art I hear definitely going. There is still a certain amount of doubt as to whether

Redmond can get away, but I be lieve it is almost certain that he will be able to go.

The Committee have had no easy task in getting a team together, for the visit, with the Interport match and the China Champion ship, is rather a long one, but they have certainly collected the best six available. It would be foolish to pretend that it is anything like our strongest team, but that is only the fault of circumstances. Any- how none of them will be a victims, and Shanghai, properly own selection humbled by their from Hong Kong's past and present talent, are far from certain of victory.

The question of lengthening the second half of the New Course has been in the air for some time, but it has now come down to earth, and, so far as one can see at pre sent, has settled on an extremely fine, piece of ground. The new land in beyond the Tea Table green and the present 18th fairway, stretching up the gentle rise of the hiilside to the trees. At present it naturally has to be looked at with the eye of faith to be appreciated fully as part of a golf course, for the ground is very rough and deep in grase Eren this, however, can- not disguise the fact that there is one natural anort hole there which is bound to be excellent. The work of draining and preparing the ground, which does not offer any very great dithealty, will be started immediately. Until this is done it is obviously impossible to come to the any hard and fast decision

of the new boles, but a plugin. tamate, gives the length of the new accond half as over 3,000 yards, an increase of about 1,000 yards which will make the New Lourse just about as long ma the Old Course.

The provisional idea of the alters tions is firstly that the present 10th, -11th and 12th shall remain at least approximately as they now ate. Opposite the green of the short 12th a new tee will be, built in the present 14th fairway, and one's drive, supposing all goes well, will pitch somewhere in the neighbour- bood of the Tea Table green, which is to be demolished, and run just beyund it. The second shot will be a long one round the hillside and up to a green in the new country and it will take two good blows to got bore. In other words, this hole will be a long left hand dog- leg, played slightly up hill, and probably the bogey will be s.
