The system of Travellers' Cheques was originated in 1891 by the Americaa Express Company with the object of creating a form of travel currency which would give the holder the security of a letter of credit and atthe same time the convenience of local currency. The Company registered the the trade name of AMERICAN EXPRESS cheques ander TRAVELERS CHEQUES the word Traveller being spelled with one "1". The advantage of the Cheques was so apparent that other banking institutious adopted the system.
