VERY GOOD IMPORTS.

General cargo discharged for this port and through cargo, were very high for the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. yesterday.

There were eighteen arrivals and twenty departures for the period under review of which seves at rivals and the same number, of departures were British ships.

Sixteen vessels discharged 25,310 | President Van Buren, Sept. 22nd. tons of general merchandise and six British vessels contributed 14,787 tons. The best carrier was the s.. Natica a British oil tanker under charter of the A.P.C., with 7,394 tons of kerosene and benzine from P. Samboc. The s.3. Tjikem bang (Dutch) from Sourabaya and Tg. Parden discharged 3:117 tons,

Eight vessels carried 23,743 tons through freights. Three British ships were responsible for 8,655 tons, but the best carrier was a Japanese vessel. The s.s. Toysha- ui Haru from Glasgow and Sia. gapore had 6,967 tons of general merchandise, while the a.s. Glenap (British) from London and Singa- pore carried 3,825 tons of general

cargo.

DIVING OPERATIONS IN THE HARBOUR.

NOTIFICATION TO MARINERS.

A notification to Mariners re lating to diving operations in the Harbour has been issued by the local authorities as follows:

Surveys involving diving opera- tions will be commenced on Septem ber 12 over the line of the harbour bottom between - Queen's Pier and the intersection of the East side of Nathan Road with Kowloon Har- 'bour front.

One diving barge, flying"&" red flag, a motor boat and two sampans, will be employed on the above work for a period of about two months.

A local Notice to Mariners issued. by the Commissioner of Customs at Foschow, is as follows:.

Notice is hereby given that on or about. September 10th, the work of closing the gap between the old and the new dykes at the Ah Taik Valley will be undertaken.

Using Bright Lights To Fish. Fifteen sampan. people appeared before Commander J. B. Newill, D.S.O, R.N., at the Marine Court yesterday morning. for. using bright lights for fishing purposes at prohibited areas of the Harbour. Acting Sub-Inspector Sheppard who made the arrests prosecuted and all defendants pleaded guilty.

A fine of 83 was imposed in each case.
