THROUGH FREIGHTS
INCREASE.
The returns of general merchan- dise for this port during the 24 hours ended at 9 am yesterday were very good. Through freights Wore also high and showed a mark ed increase over the previous day's figures There were thirteen ar- rivals and thirteen departures of which seven arrivals and r de partures ware British ships.
Eleven vessels discharged 19,223 tons of general merchandise for this port of which 8,291 tons were con- tributed by six British ships. The two beat carriers were the ss. Heron (Norwegian) with 7,560 tons of oil fuel from San Pedro; and the 8.5. Soluiten (Norwegian); with 2,370 tons of rice from Saigon.
Through freight carried by seven vessels amounted to 17,685 tons and Sve British ships carried 7,213 tons. The 4.4. Danmark (Danish) was best cargo carrier with 7,000 tons of beans from Vladivostock and Shanghai. The -5.5. Kashgar (British) was second best carrier with 3,323 tons tons of general cargo from London and Singapore, The arrivals and departures dur- ing the period under review were an follow:--
