Letter To. Mr. Wunsa King..” In a letter to Mr. Wuner King, Commissioner of Foreign Affairs, the Chinese Ratepayers Associa tion ask that the Commissioner should open negotiations with the Consular Bey at once for the sup pression of existing courses and say, inter alia, that greyhound racing has proved itself to be curse, beneficial only to

the foreigners and a few Chinese who happen to be shareholders.

A few go, they say for the purpose of witnessing the dogs run but the majority go for the purpose of gambling. Included in the latter are many labourers and poor people, who spend their hard-earned savings in trying to make more money. But they lose, and, the result is that they boy row, or even commit crime, go to the races again in the hope of get ting their money back and invari so positive and the danger so menacing tast the Commisioner of Foreign Affairs is asked to negotiate with the Consular Body for the suppression of existing courses and the prevention of new ones from springing up.

I was sailing in Mr. Benson's 15-metre Lady Anne. Perhaps it is because she did not win that I feel cheated by the wind. In the gossip

after a race I find that there is always one definits section of people who approve of the wind, and an- other who equally strongly do not. But I think there may be more justice attached to the Clerk of the Weather than he is generally given credit for.

For instance, Lady Anne won the day before, so the repeated un- Javourable slants which robbed her of her leading position gave Mr. Mandalay's Paula a win.
